Information edited by Sakatsu Gallery

This is a very large set of two works inspired by the downtown area of Tokyo around the late Meiji and early Taisho periods (early 20th century).
In "No.1", created in 2009, the scene is based on the idea of a "merchant district" in downtown Tokyo, when there were still many rivers and canals, remnants of Edo's prosperous shipping industry.
In the "No.2" series, which was produced in 2014, we envisage a "downtown" area with a high concentration of food shops, entertainment venues, inns, boathouses and row houses.
Each piece can be appreciated on its own, but when placed together, the two pieces create a powerful scene over 160cm long.

The dolls and roof tiles are pre-made, but all the structures (the building itself, the bridge, the boat, etc.) are made by hand on paper.
The building, the streetlights and the river are illuminated with LED lights, so that you can enjoy the work as a night scene.
The "Classic Train" car is included in the set and can be made to run by connecting the power pack to the plug on the side. (Power pack is not included. Round trip operation only.
Enjoy the heat of the changing times and the beauty of the cityscape.
