This diorama shows the 'Regiorunner', a special fast train on the InterCity (IC) line, which connects the major cities in the Netherlands, running on the track between the canals.
The double-decker DD-IRM trains for IC trains are as comfortable as green cars in Japan, with generous seat spacing.
Advanced flood control techniques carry commuters each morning over a raised embankment only a few metres above the river level.
Adjacent to the canal, the track intersecting the tributaries is crossed by a raised bridge, which moves up and down to avoid obstructing the passage of ships, over which the trains pass.
This film is based on an illustration by the author Nishimura, an illustrator by profession, for the in-flight magazine of Royal Dutch Airlines.
