This is the story of a hot summer day at Hikone Station on the Omi Railway.
A group of children are catching insects in the middle of a side-line where the summer grass is growing thick.
A small pile of ivy covers the ground where the insects have taken refuge, in the form of an abandoned freight car.
Beside it stands ED31, locked in a wheel lock.
The ED31 class of the scenery was born in 1923 as the Ina Electric Railway Deki 1 class electric locomotive, and was nationalized by wartime acquisition.
The locomotive was sold to Omi Railways and was used to pull freight cars on the main line and Hikone Cement until 1988.
This is the first time I've seen this type of train on the main line.
This is a scenic piece that evokes the smell of summer's sweltering grass.
The leaves of the ivy are painted to give each a different look and gradation.
The height of the overgrown undergrowth is felt in contrast to the children. Combined with the decommissioned freight wagons, you can enjoy a nostalgic atmosphere.
