The good old USA of the 1950s. A semi-realistic picture frame of a scene that is a mixture of longing, strength and nostalgia.
This is a 1/35 scale, fully scratch-built, one-of-a-kind model of the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad's (CB&Q) E5 passenger locomotive.
The beautifully streamlined nose is carved from wood, resurfaced and painted in metallic colours. Most of the sides of the car are made from real stainless steel to represent the rivets.
Through the netting on the top of the sides you can see the inner workings of the cab unit, which is a real treat!
The undercarriage is of course well reproduced, combining the power of size with the precision of a model.
When you look at it, the crossing where people are waiting looks like it is glowing, but in fact there is no light source. The technique is to apply a highly reflective coating to the inside of one of the crossing signals so that it reflects the ambient light and makes it appear to glow.
This kind of three-dimensionality is limited to half of the work, and the background is a collage that prioritizes the image of the scene, resulting in a work of high design quality.
A model that can be displayed. A model that can also be used as an interior decoration.
